A New Season of Momentum
Rescue + Residence faces new seasons.
Rescue + Residence | December 2025 – February 2026
There are seasons when you build quietly.
And there are seasons when that quiet work begins to show signs of life.
For Rescue + Residence, December and January marked the beginning of visible momentum — the kind that turns vision into action.
We Secured Our Home Base
In December, we signed the lease for our property.
That single step provides stability, legitimacy, and a foundation for everything that follows. For veterans transitioning out of crisis, stability is everything. Now, we have it too.
Shortly after, we partnered with U.S.VETS to welcome a veteran through the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. Deposit and rent support for December and January arrived in January, marking our return to active housing collaboration.
This is how change begins — one veteran, one partnership, one step forward.

Building More Than Shelter
We’ve continued strengthening the property in practical, hands-on ways.
Through ongoing collaboration with Copper Mountain Services, we are working toward utilizing heavy earth-moving equipment to improve the dirt road and prepare the ground for a future dining facility. These improvements don’t just make the land look better — they make it safer, more accessible, and more functional for veterans who will call this place home.
Two shipping containers arrived from the Port of Long Beach — and while they weren’t the High Cube units we expected, GetSimpleBox has generously offered to exchange the containers they picked up and stored for us (see the previous blog post about our dining facility concept here) for 40’ high cube containers they have on-site at no cost to us. Challenges happen. Partnerships matter.
Some elements of the inside of RoadRunner 1 are undergoing transformation:
Old ceiling panels removed
Havelock Wool insulation installation is changing slightly
New ceiling design using durable vinyl flooring material
Aluminum channels for LED lighting down the center are being measured and cut
We are constantly refining our approach — building with durability, dignity, and comfort in mind.
Every improvement is built with future residents in mind.
Creating Community, Not Just Housing
One of the most exciting developments has been our expanding partnership with GameCorps.
GameCorps exists to reduce veteran isolation by building structured gaming communities that foster connection, camaraderie, and mental wellness. Their mission aligns beautifully with ours: no veteran should feel alone.
Our on-site gaming node is now fully operational with two gaming PCs. We hope to host veterans and active-duty service members for monthly tournaments, and the Armed Services YMCA of 29 Palms has expressed interest in supporting with water and snacks.
GameCorps has also donated two additional gaming PCs for use as fundraiser raffle prizes or tournament incentives, along with branded swag.
We’re exploring expanding our common area with arcade cabinets, gaming consoles, and even shuffleboard — because healing happens in community.
Join us on the GameCorps Discord server and make sure you know when the next events are. You can also see our Executive Director stream for GameCorps every Tuesday morning at 6 am EST (Yes, he is in California and streaming at 0400 local… he is a little crazy).
Housing provides safety. Community provides belonging.
Connection is powerful medicine.
Expanding the Vision
We recently received encouraging news from Helping Heroes USA that funding discussions are progressing. While it may not support the originally envisioned 80-acre master plan, it opens the door to a scalable vision — larger than our current footprint, yet realistic and phased.
In January, we also received the Notice of Funding Opportunity from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for the Grant & Per Diem Program. Our application, developed through January and February, includes potential funding for staffing — including an Intake & Evaluation Specialist. If awarded, this funding would allow us to compensate key volunteers who have faithfully given their time.
Behind the scenes, our intake and evaluation system continues to be refined to ensure every veteran receives structured, measurable support.
The vision is growing — thoughtfully and sustainably.
We Need You in This Story
Rescue + Residence is still primarily funded by individual donations.
That means progress happens because ordinary people choose to do something extraordinary — give consistently.
If you believe veterans deserve not just shelter, but community…
If you believe stability can change a life…
If you believe small monthly gifts can build something lasting…
We invite you to become a recurring supporter:
Even $10 or $25 per month builds stability we can count on.
Monthly giving isn’t just a donation — it’s a commitment to momentum.
“This mission moves forward because people step up.”
Looking Ahead
We are working to schedule our spring Fundraiser Breakfast at Lighthouse Church in Yucca Valley. Timing is critical, and we look forward to gathering supporters in person soon.
We are also strengthening our Board and governance structure to ensure sustainable growth and consistent oversight. If you are interested in helping lead this organization into the future, don't hesitate to get in touch with us at admin@rescueresidence.org
Because this isn’t about quick wins.
It’s about building something that lasts.
Momentum Is Building
In recent months, we have:
Secured our operational property
Reestablished housing placement partnerships
Strengthened infrastructure
Launched a veteran gaming community hub
Submitted a major federal grant application
Preserved financial reserves despite seasonal expenses
The foundation is solid.
The vision is clear.
The next chapter depends on the community rallying around it.
Will you help us build it?
